Travel itinerary
1. Day: Budva-Becici
Transfer from Podgorica or Dubrovnik airport to our hotel in Budva-Becici.
2. Day: Budva – Cetinje – Njegusi – Budva
Today we visit the former capital and residence town of Cetinje. We visit the former royal residence, the old government house and the famous monastery. Afterwards the largest art gallery of former Yugoslavia awaits us, where among other things the icon of Our Lady of Filermos is kept. Afterwards we drive through a picturesque landscape to the original village of Njegusi, where we can taste delicacies such as Njegusi ham, cheese, wine or even the honey wine of the old Slavs. Via the Lovcen road the way leads back to the hotel in Budva. Dinner and overnight.
3. Day: Budva – Kotor – Perast – Budva
Today we will visit the most famous medieval town in Montenegro. Kotor is a UNESCO world heritage site and enchants us with its charm, narrow streets and squares. During the city tour we will see important buildings such as the Cathedral of St. Tripun, the Church of St. Luke, the Napoleon Theatre and of course the medieval city walls. From Kotor we go by boat through the most beautiful bay of the Mediterranean to the baroque city of Perast. On the way we visit the island of Mary of the Rock. In the afternoon we return to the hotel in Budva. Dinner and overnight in Budva.
4. Day: Budva – bar – Ulcinj – Shkodra
In the morning drive to the city of Bar. Here an old Turkish bazaar and a market with mainly olive products awaits us, as the region is famous for its olives. We will also see one of the three oldest olive trees in the world, which is already over 2000 years old. Afterwards we will continue to the town of Ulcinj, one of the oldest settlements in Montenegro. Already the Greeks and the Romans settled here. In the 15th century, pirate's town arises a peculiar mixture of different culture - mosques, churches, clock towers... Afterwards we will visit the longest beach of the country and the river island Ada Bojana near the Albanian border.
Afterwards we cross the Albanian border and drive to our hotel in the Shkodra area. Dinner and overnight.
5. Day: Shkodra – Kruja – Tirana - Durres
After breakfast we leave Shkodra and drive south to Kruja. Here we will visit the citadel and the museum of the Albanian national hero Skanderbeg, under which Kruja was once the epicenter of the legendary Albanian defensive struggle against Ottoman rule. Visit to the traditional bazaar. At noon we continue our journey to Tirana, after arrival we will do a sightseeing tour of the city. Dinner and overnight in Durres.
6. Day: Durres – Berat – Ohrid
In the morning drive to the town of Berat, UNESCO World Heritage Site. The "city of a thousand windows" and best-preserved historical city of Albania. City walk through the characteristic "Mangalemi" quarter with visit to the Ethnographic Museum. Afterwards we ascend to the fortress district with its churches and the cathedral and visit the Onufri Museum with icons of this famous Albanian painter. We continue to the Macedonian border and to our hotel in Ohrid. Here a typical Macedonian dinner with music awaits us. Dinner and overnight.
7. Day: Ohrid – Sveti Naum
Today we spend the day in this unique city. We start the sightseeing with a small boat trip on the Ohrid Lake, one of the deepest lakes in the world. The church of St. John is probably the best eye catcher, here we leave the boat and walk through the old town, we see the Fortress of Samuel and numerous churches and monasteries. Around Ohrid there are more than 365 of them. In the afternoon we take a romantic rowboat ride on a small lake, which feeds the Ohrid lake through underground springs. Afterwards we visit the unique monastery St. Naum, near the Albanian border. Dinner and overnight at our hotel in Ohrid.
8. Day: Ohrid – Mavrovo – Tetovo – Skopje
Via the Mavrovo National Park we drive to Tetovo. Here we visit the "colorful mosque" before we drive on to our hotel in the Macedonian capital Skopje. Dinner and overnight.
9. Day: Skopje - Transfer to the airport
After breakfast we will undertake a detailed city tour of the Macedonian capital. Skopje fascinates with a variety of architecture. Especially worth seeing is the Muslim quarter with its huge bazaar. Of course, the Fortress of Kale should not be missed as well as the "modern" Skopje on the other side of the river Vardar. Afterwards transfer to Skopje airport and departure.
